Mumford & Sons’ debut offering without a doubt took the music world by storm following its release back in October of 2009.
Sigh No More, released through Island Records, became one of the biggest selling records of the year, bagging the folk/rock outfit their first UK album top ten finish at the first time of asking.
Yet almost three years on and as we approached festival season, news regarding a brand new remained stagnant; but their teaser video posted online via their YouTube channel in early July certainly conjured up a fair amount of interest.
But fans didn’t have to wait long. Keyboardist Benjamin Lovett unexpectedly announced during a recent live show that the follow up to Sigh No More could be released “as early as mid September”, and having initially played down reports of a 2012 release date the band could hardly keep the excitement in any longer.
Titled Babel and produced by Marcus Dravs, the 12-track offering is set for release through Gentlemen of the Road/Island Records on September 24th. More details, including the album’s track listing, can be found here.
Ahead of the album’s release in just over a month’s time, Mumford & Sons have unveiled the album’s first official single, I Will Wait. The track premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show earlier this week. Stream I Will Wait in full below:
