Russia’s Tesla Boy sure know how to create a dance track or two. Their infectious 80′s inspired synthpop anthems have earned the trio a a great deal of success on an international scale, and now, following the release of their debut album two years ago, the group are back with a brand new offering ahead of a new EP scheduled for release later this year.
We first came across Tesla Boy towards the back end of 2010 as we desperately searched the realms of the internet in the hope that we’d unearth a gem or two. It turned out that Tesla Boy weren’t as unknown as we had initially expected. The all male group, consisting of Anton Sevidov, Dima Midborn and Poko Cox, released their debut album Modern Thrills in 2010 having dropped their debut EP, The Tesla Boy, a year earlier.
Modern Thrills, as far as debut albums go, was as ground breaking as you can get, and, whilst it’s been pretty much outplayed ever since we first discovered it, the hope was that further new material would be on the way – sooner rather than later.
The band unveiled a brand new track, Fantasy, earlier this month as they prepare for the release of a new EP. Perhaps Tesla Boy’s most defining number to date, Fantasy presents 4-or-so minutes of mouth watering synthesizers and a host of groove-filled layered beats – all of which support the band’s trademark filtered, reverberated vocals, providing a glossy overlay to a summer electronic anthem in the making.
Despite their massive international appeal, it remains to be seen whether they’ll be packing out venues this side of Europe. Nonetheless, that won’t stop us from enjoying this brilliant new offering – and the fact that Tesla Boy offerings of late have been rather scarce of late makes it all the more special.
